FAQs

Why home birth?

Giving birth in your home flips the usual power dynamics that can impact the care and experience you have in a hospital-based birth. We meet you in your own space, among your own comforts. We are partners in your care and understand that you are the expert in your body and experience. Homebirth provides the space to truly support physiologic, client-centered care. Homebirth also consistently proves to limit interventions and improve outcomes. You will know us and we will know you.

What is a midwife?

A midwife is a trained medical professional who specializes in primary, prenatal, birth, and postpartum care. There are a number of paths to becoming trained as a midwife including masters-level university education or apprenticeship-based models. Midwives can work in hospitals, birth centers, and/or provide homebirth. Midwives are experts in normal birth.

What is wrap around care?

Supporting families does not mean simply catching your baby. We offer support ahead of starting your family, during your pregnancy, and after your pregnancy. This includes emotional and physical support and can involve pulling in a variety of community resources to allow each family to feel fully supported during this transformative time.

Do you take insurance?

Beacon Community Midwifery works out-of-network with all insurances, including Medicaid and marketplace plans. Most insurance companies will cover most, if not all, of the fee for home birth. We work with an expert medical biller dedicated to carefully explaining to you what you might be responsible for financially and guiding you through the process. Lab work will be drawn or collected by your midwife and sent to a laboratory that is in-network with your insurance. For ultrasounds you will be referred to an in-network provider.

For our other services, we work on a sliding-scale fee structure detailed below. We also accept health spending accounts or other flex options.
